Cycling Fed Square to Mordialloc, lunch in Brighton

Explore some of the sights in South Melbourne, then follow the scenic Bay Trail to Brighton for lunch, and optionally continue to Mordialloc.

GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Easy, 16 km cycling (or medium grade 37 km if continuing to Mordialloc). 

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION:
This easy ride will take us from Federation Square along Southbank, past South Melbourne Market and Town Hall then round Albert Park Lake, after which we'll follow the Bay Trail to Brighton where you can order lunch at the Brighton Beach Hotel (Milano's Tavern) looking out over the Bay. The distance to lunch is approximately 16 km. 

After lunch, your options are to return by train from Brighton Beach Station (which is beside the restaurant); to continue a further 21 km on the cycling path to Mordialloc (then return by train); or to cycle back towards Federation Square. 

We'll be riding almost entirely on cycling paths, and there are no hills! If it's a warm day, you can cool off with a refreshing dip in the Bay.

MEETING TIME | LOCATION: 10:30am at the Birrarung Marr bike parking, located beside the river on Birrarung Marr (between Swanston Street and the MCG, and between the river and the Federation Square Car Park).

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: any train line to Flinders Street Station.

FOOD: lunch will be ordered from the Brighton Beach Hotel.

APPAREL | FOOTWEAR: You'll need a bike and helmet, and should carry some water - there are a few refill points along the way. Dress according to the weather forecast.
