Note - this trip will not proceed if the projected maximum temperature will be 32 degrees plus !!!
Based on Gunaikurnai country, the railway from Moe to Yallourn was constructed in the 1950s to replace the
original branch line, which joined the main line between Morwell and Moe. The new line saved the heavy coal trains from climbing the Haunted Hills. The line was closed in 1986 when briquette production was shifted to Morwell.
Flora along the trail includes several species of wattle and eucalypt, such as blackwood, silver and black wattles, messmate and swamp gums. Low growing bluebells, various orchids and pea flowers, and Victoria's floral emblem, the common heath, can also be seen. Local birds include the superb blue wren, crimson rosella, welcome swallow, Australian magpie, grey shrike-thrush, kookaburra, sacred ibis and red wattle bird.
