An Outing in Geelong via Train and Ferry
North Geelong Station
10:50 – 18:10
Enjoy a pleasant winter's walk on the Geelong foreshore, travelling there and back via public transport: a V/Line train to the North Geelong Station, returning to Docklands by ferry (or optionally by train).  GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Easy 7 km point-to-point walk, optionally extended to a moderate 13 km walk via an additional 6 km circuit walk along the foreshore to Eastern Park (graded according to the Leaders Guide - Appendix A: Activity Grading Guidelines).  ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: We'll catch a V/Line train to Geelong's North Geelong Station, from where we'll walk to the interesting Federal Mills complex for a quick visit. Afterwards, a short stroll will take us to the foreshore, which we'll follow all the way round to Cunningham Pier and the picturesque Geelong waterfront. Lunch can be taken in this vicinity, either in one of the cafes facing the foreshore, or you can BYO lunch for a picnic in the park. Suggested lunch options are The Geelong Boathouse (for fish and chips) or Hecho en Mexico. There is limited indoor seating at The Geelong Boathouse, so if it's raining, Hecho en Mexico would be best.  After lunch you'll have the option to stroll with us along the waterfront around to Eastern Beach, and back via parklands and Malop St, or alternatively to check out the nearby Geelong CBD on your own - there is an excellent Art Gallery located on Johnstone Park and the National Wool Museum is quite close to Cunningham Pier. To return to Melbourne, we'll catch the 4pm Port Phillip Ferries service to Docklands via Portarlington. If you prefer though, you can catch a V/Line train from the nearby Geelong Station, which will effectively be cost-free since weekend train travel is capped at $7.20 per day (or $3.60 for Seniors/Concessions).  BOOKING: By Friday 23rd August. To register with The Nomads, click on Get Tickets. To book your ferry ticket, go to Port Phillip Ferries (this can be done on the day from your phone). Bookings can't be made for the V/Line trains, but you'll need a Myki card. Unsure if you've already booked? Click View my bookings. FURTHER INFORMATION: See V/Line Trains for timetables. Docklands-Geelong-Portarlington ferry service: Port Phillip Ferries.  For our approximate route, see the North Geelong - Federal Mills - Eastern Beach - Port Phillip Ferries Google map. MEETING TIME | LOCATION: 10:50am at the North Geelong Station, 109 Victoria St, North Geelong.  ** Note: this is a change from the formerly advertised starting point of North Shore Station ** If travelling by train from Southern Cross, you should get to Southern Cross Station by around 9:35am, ready to board the Waurn Ponds service that departs at 9:50am. MAP REFERENCE: Google map maps.app.goo.gl/o4VS9PPy3MBH8KAq8.  DISTANCE | TIME FROM GPO: 67 km, 59 minutes by train (or approximately 1 hour to drive, but public transport is recommended).  PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Outbound: Board the front carriage of the Waurn Ponds (Geelong) service that departs from Southern Cross Station at 9:50am, and should arrive at the North Geelong Station at 10:49am. Return: We'll need to get to the Port Phillip Ferries terminal by 3:45pm, to board the ferry that departs from Geelong at 4pm.  Return via V/Line: Trains bound for Southern Cross depart from Geelong Station at 3:32pm, 4:12pm, 4:52pm, 5:32pm, etc. COST: TRAIN: Train, tram and bus travel is capped at $7.20 per day (or $3.60 for Seniors/Concessions) for travel anywhere in Victoria. FERRY: The Geelong-Docklands service costs $26.50 one-way (or $24.50 for Seniors/Concessions) on weekends. NOTE: You can leave purchasing your ferry ticket until close to the time of travel - there will be ample space on board. FOOD: Carry snacks if you wish and some drinking water. Mixed Naturist 10 Pin Bowling, Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne
Box Hill
19:30 – 22:00
EVENT UPDATE: Please note that we are fully booked out for this event. We have created a wait list in case there are cancellations which free up attendance spaces. Details are provided in the ticketing area. Thank you to all who have booked and paid for tickets. Join us for a fun evening of nude 10 pin bowling at a location in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. We have hired the entire venue. The event is open to Nomads members and visitors. Ticket holders will receive address details of the venue by Wednesday 3rd July 2024. Location given is approximate. We are only able to share the venue details, including the suburb, with confirmed ticket holders. Participants are not permitted to share the venue name or location. Please leave that to the organisers. SUPPER AT BOWLING VENUE: There was going to be an optional meal at a local restaurant after the bowling, but we now have an alternative, probably better, idea. We are now planning a bring-and-share supper in the room next to the bowling alley. This has been popular during previous similar events.  FOOD: You may bring your own non-alcoholic drinks to the venue to drink between bowls. Alcoholic drinks for personal consumption are permitted in the supper room adjoining the bowling area, but not in the room where we are bowling. No glass, please for safety, and ensure that no drinks at all are taken into the bowling lane area. Everyone is requested to bring a plate of food to share for supper. If you bring food that needs to be heated, please be aware that we only have access to a pie warmer. Please do not bring food on non-reusable plastic plates as these are not allowed at this type of event. It would be appreciated if everyone could bring your own cold drinks. Free tea and coffee will be provided. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: We will meet out the front of the venue at 7.30pm if the weather is fine, or inside the foyer if it is raining. Please do not block the entrance, as other patrons may be leaving the building. We would ask that everyone is respectful of the venue staff, who are assisting us to make this event happen. Facemasks are not required to be worn but you may wear a mask if you would prefer. Hand sanitiser will be provided. Once introductions are completed, we will proceed to the bowling area. When advised by the Event Leader, everyone may then undress. All clothes can be left at the rear of the bowling alley. You may wish to bring a small bag for your clothes. There should be no problem with security, but we recommend that you do not bring valuables into the venue, as we are unable to take responsibility for any losses. The time allocated for bowling is 8pm until 10pm. Bowling shoes will be provided for all. You will each be able to select a suitable bowling ball to use during the evening, and then can join in with others at any one of the lanes. Do not worry if you are on your own, we will ensure that everyone finds a group to bowl with. You do not need to be experienced in 10 pin bowling. This is all about having fun with like minded people. Depending on the number of bowlers at each lane, you can typically expect to complete up to two games. There will be a small competition with prizes which will be awarded based on the individual scores of the first game. Once everyone has finished the first game, we will stop for presentation of prizes, and to share supper together. ACTIVITIES AFTER THE PRESENTATIONS: Once presentations have been made, you are free to continue with supper and talking to people, you may return to bowling, or for a fee of $8.20 payable at the front desk, you can have a swim in one of the indoor heated swimming pools on site. It would be appreciated if everyone could promptly depart the venue at 10pm. We would welcome the assistance of a few people to help the organisers with packing up after the night. PHOTOGRAPHY: In order to maintain everyone's privacy, please note that no photographs will be permitted except as advised by the Event Leader on the night. Phones are not to be used during the evening, and we thank you for assisting us with this. Please see the Event Leader Michael if you have any concerns. BOOKING: By 1pm on Wednesday 3rd July 2024. Social and Planning Night - Arcadia Hotel
Arcadia Hotel
19:00 – 21:00
Our regular monthly social night - this month at the Arcadia Hotel. GRADE: Social.  ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: The Nomads hold a social night each month, where members and guests can enjoy a meal, talk about upcoming events, compare notes on past activities and float ideas on events they would like to see run. July is planning month, where we sketch out the program of events for the upcoming september quarter. Most of the planning will have been done via a Zoom pre-planning meeting the previous night, but in this social evening we also welcome additional suggestions to fill any gaps. Do you want to see more of a particular activity, or do you have a particularly favourite area of Victoria you would like to share with others? Do you have an idea for a walk we haven't done before? If so, we'd love to hear from you. Everyone is welcome – you don't have to volunteer for an activity. New members are especially invited to any of the monthly Nomads social evenings. The Arcadia Hotel has an extensive menu offering a range of pizzas and bar snacks, popular pub classics, healthy salads and weekly specials - Tuesday is $16 parma night (including vegetarian parmas).
